I had a normal and easy
pregnancy, aside from a few weeks of spotting in the beginning (they did a
color Doppler ultrasound at around 8 weeks to make sure everything was okay).
It was our first and we were happy to start a family and bring our son into a
loving home. Towards the end of my pregnancy, my blood pressure became
somewhat elevated (never progressed into anything more) and the doctor
recommended that I go to fetal monitoring twice per week and that I go on bed
rest.
On October 10, 2006 I went in for my fetal monitoring
(37.5 weeks along) and everything appeared to be normal. The next day I went
in for a regular check up and the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. We had an
ultrasound and saw that his heart had stopped. This was the worst day of our
lives. We moved the c-section date up (he was breech, I also have Uterus
Didelphys) and Thomas was silently delivered on October 12, 2006. Thomas was
perfect in every way.
We were told that he had a velamentous insertion
umbilical cord and that he had probably leaned on the cord and pinched it,
cutting off his blood supply.
Thomas will
always be loved and always be missed.
